HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Who?
The founder of Lumina Design, Satu-Maija Arvo, has always been interested in homes, and already in upper secondary school she was thinking about becoming either an interior architect or a real estate agent, but on the recommendation of her parents, she ended up in the commercial sector and made a career in The Body Shop, progressing from a Cosmetics Salesperson to a Trainer and Area Manager in the Helsinki metropolitan area. During her maternity leave, Arvo's family looked for a new home for 1.5 years, and along the way there were many unfortunately bad real estate agents, so Satu-Maija decided to complete her Real estate agent degree and become a reliable and productive Realtor. Her career as a Real estate agent in the Kiinteistömaailma chain progressed rapidly, and after only a year as a Realtor Satu-Maija founded her own Kiinteistömaailma company in Alppila Helsinki, and later merged with Kiinteistömaailma Lauttasaari. Although Satu-Maija loved her work as an entrepreneur in the real estate industry, 6 years of hectic entrepreneurship, building her own house, divorce and busy years with small children drove Satu-Maija to make a big life change again for her own well-being and children.
Satu-Maija ended up making a business deal for Kiinteistömaailma Alppila and Lauttasaari. A few months passed by with a lot of rest and for the first time genuinely on vacation. Little by little, Satu-Maija's creativity and childhood hobby returned to her life – acrylic painting, and very soon she realised that she wanted to work in the creative field. This realization, as well as her love for apartments and several successful apartment flipping projects, led her to study interior design at Helsinki Design School. Interior design studies and her first work projects strengthened Satu-Maija's idea that this is what she wants to do, but again, not in quite the same way as others.
To whom?
Satu-Maija feels that in Finland, interior designer services are often perceived as elitist and exclusive, and they are often completely forgotten in renovation design. Lumina Design offers truly holistic, individual and innovative renovation and interior design and their implementation for all apartment owners in the Helsinki metropolitan area who want to make their current or new home more functional and timelessly beautiful. Satu-Maija's strengths as a designer include her ability to understand what the customer really needs, as well as her organisational and problem-solving skills; there are always twists and turns on the construction site, and Satu-Maija takes a positive and creative approach to these, as she thinks that problems often lead to an even more unique and fascinating outcome.

Satu-Maija sincerely wants to bring joy to her customers and improve their everyday lives. She believes that everyone deserves a beautiful home, and even small changes can work wonders. The idea for the business came from the fact that Satu-Maija herself had struggled in her own construction and renovation projects with the fact that it was difficult to find reliable people and no one seemed to offer all services under the same roof and there was no investment in planning at all, so in problem situations (which always happen), each contractor just blamed each other for mistakes and budgets never kept. Thus, as a result of several years of work and with the help of an extensive network, Satu-Maija has been able to assemble a reliable, professional and comprehensive renovation team and founded Lumina Design to solve all customers' renovation concerns by offering reliable, high-quality and transparently priced turnkey renovation.
